Identifying Limiting Beliefs

How Can I Identify Limiting Beliefs?

Have you ever felt like there's something holding you back from reaching your full potential? Maybe you have a dream you've been wanting to pursue for a long time, but you just can't seem to take the necessary steps to make it happen. If this sounds familiar, then it's possible that you have some limiting beliefs that are hindering your progress.

Limiting beliefs are negative thoughts or assumptions that we hold about ourselves, others, or the world around us. They can manifest as feelings of self-doubt, fear, or insecurity, and can prevent us from taking risks and pursuing our goals.

These beliefs may be conscious or subconscious, and they can be incredibly powerful. For example, you may believe that you're not good enough or that you don't have the skills or resources to achieve your goals. These beliefs may have developed over time due to past experiences or messages that you've received from others.

The first step to overcoming these limiting beliefs is to identify them.

So ask yourself, do you ever....

⭐ Say things about yourself or something starting with a negative - “I can’t..., I’m not....,

It won’t...”

⭐ Compare yourself to others, by saying things like “I’ll never be as good as _____

because ______” or “I’m not good enough.”

⭐ You justify the choices you make by making excuses about yourself. A common one

being “I don’t have time.”

⭐ You tell yourself that you’ve always been that way - “That’s just me” or “I’ll never

change, it’s the way I am”.

⭐ You state beliefs about yourself as fact - ‘I’m too old to change now.”

Once you've identified them, challenge them. Ask yourself if they're really true or if there's evidence to the contrary.

Once you’ve identified a limiting belief you need to challenge it. Ask yourself if they're really true or if there's evidence to the contrary.

Then turn it into something positive. For example, “I am good enough”, “I do have time”, or “Of course I can change, people change all the time.”

A belief is something that you’ve told yourself over and over again until you believe that it’s true. Therefore we can create new, positive beliefs in exactly the same way.

A great way to do this is through affirmations. Say your new belief to yourself everyday and gradually you will believe it.

The good news is that limiting beliefs can be overcome with time and effort. By challenging our negative thoughts and replacing them with more positive and empowering ones, we can start to shift our mindset and take action towards our goals.

elevate your health, empower your life.
